Kickerbocker Glory – Good Old Fashioned Indulgence!

So… when did you last have a Knickerbocker Glory then?  Do you know what one is?

Well the picture here shows you exactly how one should look and it should be freshly made, just as ours are here at The Tally Ho Tearooms!

So what does it include?

Well, starting from the bottom there are…
Pieces of fruit,
then Strawberry icecream,
Vanilla ice cream
and then Chocolate icecream at the top.
This is also drizzled with Chocolate and Strawberry sauces,
and finally topped with cream,
a fan wafer
and the must have Cherry on the Top!

This is served with a very long handled spoon so that you can get right down to the bottom and finish every last drop, which, I have to say is achieved whenever we serve it here!

I took these pictures in the garden and as you can see it was sunny, so I had about 2 minutes to get the right shot before the cream sagged! lol  Still I’m rather pleased with the end results.

What’s an “Eton Mess”?

Well, Strawberry time is upon us… yes it’s official… well it is, at least, Wimbledon time.  And always synonymous with Strawberries and cream, it reminded me of such things.

Anyway, I love pavlovas, cream and meringue, I could eat it all day, but a perfect way to serve up this sort of thing is as “Eton Mess”.

We have been asked what it is, and yesterday I took a photograph of one freshly created!  Then of course, we had to do a taste test!!!

I’ve placed a picture of the Eton Mess by our Specials Boards in the Tearooms so that people can see what it looks like.

The story goes that during a picnic event in the grounds of Eton College someone dropped the Strawberry pavlova and not wanting to waste it, it was placed in a glass (I assume in a big mess!)  I’m not sure if any grass was included in the original, but the greenery in the picture here is of a sprig of spearmint from the Tearooms Garden!
