Mothers Day 2012

Mothering Sunday this year was a very busy day, and in fact, the whole weekend was a busy one, with the ‘big day’ fully booked by the Friday morning.  But Saturday 17th March was also booked up with a few groups celebrating with Mum a day early and an Afternoon Tea for 23 ladies enjoying a ‘hen party weekend’.

I remembered this year to take a few photos before the day began  on Sunday and I share them here.

We gave all our visiting Mothers a little gift.

And here is the back of one of the little packets.

And finally I thought I would take a photograph of our main vase, which always holds fresh flowers, but usually with a colour theme.  However, this time I thought I would get a rainbow of colours to encourage the Spring!

Tally Ho Tearooms – Always Fresh Flowers

It’s quite funny sometimes when our customers intensely study the flowers we have on display and then eventually have to touch them to see if they actually ARE real!

Indeed they are real and it was one of the first choices I made, even before we started to refurbish the building, that we would always have fresh flowers here in the Tearooms.

I believe there is something about fresh flowers and plants that brighten the soul and although it is much more work and expense to have fresh flowers, the artificial ones, although very life-like nowadays, just don’t have that delicate touch of nature.

I love studying plants and flowers ’up close’ and to appreciate the intricacies of nature’s design and I often take photographs so that I can continue to appreciate them long after they have had to be replaced.  Here is one such photograph of a white lily (and there will be many more!).

Pure and lovely, yes, but the reason I took a photograph of this particular lily was because of what looks like an ‘outline’ of the petals!  It looks like someone has drawn the lily with pen and ink!  Most white lilies are completely white all over, but this bunch displayed this wonderful edging… Lovely!

The First Daffodil

Back in November, I told you about the 600 Daffodils we planted as part of our plan to improve the outside of the Tearooms with an eye catching flower display… luckily planted the week before the deep snow covered our countryside!

Well by mid February lots of leaves and buds could be seen and late february saw one lonely daffodil nodding in the breeze.  I have to say it was too cold for me to go and take a picture of it, but when it disappeared and the next one opened all by itself, I did go out to snap the evidence!

It was last Monday (7th) and I was wandering around enjoying the warmth of the sunshine, planning and thinking about the terrace and front lawn planting, etc, as being a Monday the Tearooms wasn’t open.

There are a lot more flowers out now, and many more to come.  I have to admit though, that it doesn’t look like 600… but there are no large gaps so they must all be coming up.

Also I am assuming they will open at different times as they were supposed to be mixed variety bags… currently, however,  they all look very similar!  I am hoping that year on year they will multiply (and we may add some too) so that the whole verge under the cherry trees is a blaze of spring colour, wouldn’t that be nice?
